Reid Rafter
“It has been a dream of mine to come full circle and combine several of the things I love the most, coaching and teaching students, and Saint Andrew’s School. It’s both a challenge and a Homecoming that I am really looking forward to!” - Reid Rafter. Director of Tennis, Saint Andrew's School
Reid Rafter is a graduate of Saint Andrew’s School, class of 1985, where he played both Varsity Tennis and Varsity Lacrosse. Reid grew up in West Palm Beach and played his entire junior tennis career in South Florida. Reid’s Junior Tennis highlights include wins over the #1 ranked junior in the United States, Ricky Brown, at National Clay Courts in Nashville, Tennessee, and the # 4 ranked Junior player in the World, Javier Sanchez, at the Orange Bowl International Junior Championships.
Reid was a highly recruited athlete and chose Vanderbilt University where he helped lead the Commodores to their first Top 20 NCAA ranking.
Upon graduation, Reid played professionally in the early 1990's. His wins included US Open winner Patrick Rafter (no relation) and US Open Doubles Champion Sandon Stolle.
Reid worked in the sports production and broadcast industry from 1999-2010 but continued to coach juniors privately who went on to attain tennis scholarships from Boston College to Villanova, to UMBC, to Stanford University and many schools in between.
Prior to being hired as the Director of Tennis at Saint Andrew’s, Reid worked for American Heritage School in Delray Beach. He played an integral role in multiple aspects of their tennis program from the PE opt-out program, to after school tennis, to summer camps, and especially as Assistant Coach for both the Middle School and Varsity Boys and Girls programs. In 2015, the girls team won a State Championship, and in the process went undefeated (21 for 21 matches) winning all 5 singles positions and both doubles spots, tying a state record.
Reid is a highly repsected tennis professional with friends and colleagues at Colleges and Universities across the nation, and he is in a unique position to use those contacts to help students achieve their collegiate/tennis aspirations.
